Why parents book a party out of the house

Every parent who has hosted a fourth birthday at home knows the arithmetic. Two hours of party costs most of a Saturday: moving furniture, buying things you will use once, managing fourteen children in a space designed for four, then cleaning up after everyone has gone and your child is overtired.

Booking a room solves the logistics. Booking a room in a building that already has a kitchen, a private space and staff who do this regularly solves the rest. You arrive, the party happens, you leave.

The space

Parties are held in our private event room at 331 1st Avenue North, in the Tees & Persse Building — a restored heritage warehouse in downtown Saskatoon, walking distance from the riverbank and the downtown core.

The room is genuinely private for the duration of your booking. It is not a corner of a café or a shared play area with other families' parties running alongside. Every package is a two-hour rental of the space, built for up to 10 children, ages 7 and under.

Party packages

Four packages: one you decorate and cater yourself, and three fully themed celebrations run by one of our educators. Every one is a two-hour private rental for up to 10 children, starting at $299.

What is included

The DIY package is the room and the furniture. The three themed packages add everything below, all sized for up to 10 children.

• Two-hour private rental of the event room, yours alone for the window.
• Tables and chairs for children and adults.
• Themed decorations and setup, done before you arrive.
• Kid-approved snacks — seasonal fruit, cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, cupcakes and juice boxes.
• An interactive activity tailored to the theme, run for the group.
• Take-home goodies for every child.
• A dedicated educator to keep the activity moving and the children engaged.

Dietary accommodation is available on every package — allergies as a matter of course, plus gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian, vegan and halal options. Tell us when you book.

Food, allergies and the adults

The kitchen is in the building, chef-led, and already cooking for the café and our take-home meal programme. Party food is made here rather than ordered in.

Allergies and medical dietary requirements are standard practice for us, not a special request — we run a licensed childcare centre in the same building, where getting this right is a daily requirement rather than an occasional courtesy. Tell us what you need when you book and it will be handled properly.

We also feed the adults. A children's party is fourteen children and eleven adults standing up for two hours, and most party venues plan for only the first group.

Ages and group sizes

Our packages are built for ages 7 and under, up to 10 children. The Princess package is sized for ages 6 and under. Within that range the shape of the party changes a good deal.

• First and second birthdays are largely for the adults. Fewer children, more parents, and the room needs to work for prams and floor-sitting — the DIY package usually suits this best.
• Three to five is the peak party age, and where a themed package earns its cost, because unstructured time with ten four-year-olds does not stay unstructured.
• Six and seven can handle a longer activity and more structure, and generally wants less adult involvement, not more.

If your group is larger than 10 children, or older than 7, email us and we will tell you honestly whether the room and the activity still work.

Members and non-members

You do not need to be a member to book a party. The event room is available for private hire either way.

Members receive member rates on room hire and catering, and book ahead of general availability — which matters for Saturday mornings in the months either side of Christmas. If you are considering membership anyway, a party is a reasonable way to see the building in use. What membership includes →

How to book

1. Email us with your date, your child's age and rough numbers. Weekend mornings book earliest, so give as much notice as you can.
2. We confirm availability and send you the package options with current pricing in writing.
3. Come and see the room if you would like to, or book on the strength of the details — most people do one or the other, not both.
4. Confirm the booking with your food choices, dietary requirements and final numbers.
5. Arrive on the day. The room is set up before you get there.

Deposit and cancellation terms are to be confirmed and will be set out in writing before you commit to anything.
